In our previous post we introduced our first ever ‘Real Life Mum’ ambassador Celia Hogan, founder of Little Kiwis Nature Play. Celia is a graduate of our ecourse for Mums, and also a member of our Audience Building Club.
During her time with us, Celia has been amazing at taking action on our advice – she has implemented everything we’ve suggested and impressed us with what she has been able to achieve in very part-time hours. And even better, the steps Celia has taken in her business these last few months have really started to pay off.
In this post, Celia shares three big wins she’s had during her time with Get It Done Mum and most importantly, how she got these results. We invite you to apply her tips and get better results too!
A great idea, but no sales and no idea where to start!
I put myself in the start-up business stage. I am setting myself up for when my children go to school. My initial idea around a business was running outdoor nature sessions for preschools.
Everyone loved the idea… but that doesn’t mean people were prepared to pay for it!
I hit a bit of a brick wall and needed help to figure out how I could still be true to my vision but also make my business ideas viable.
I decided to invest in the Get It Done Mum e-course which was exactly what I needed. It enabled me to get clearer on who my ideal client was, what some of their pain points were, what marketing techniques worked for me, where I could outsource and most importantly, what my vision was.
The best advice I have taken from Get It Done Mum, is around getting to know your ideal client and nailing their pain point first.
Once you are clear on that, you can then develop the sales funnel and product that can meet that need. If there is no need there is no sale!
I have come back twice to figuring out who my ideal client really is and what their pain point is. If you are not 100% sure then you need to go back and do some more research as it will make all your decision making so much easier if you are clear on this.
My first big win: hitting my audience building target (and then some!)
My tribe are Early Childhood teachers in NZ which is a relatively small niche. When I started I had 25 email subscribers and my goal was to reach 500 by 1st July 2017 – I have nailed that a couple of months early!
The best tip around this from J9 was to break my target down into a monthly number so it didn’t seem so daunting. Aiming for 66 subscribers a month felt a lot more achievable than aiming for 500!
I also volunteered for the hot seat on one of the Audience Building Club live coaching calls. I shared what my business was, who my ideal client is and their pain points.
Everyone on the call provided feedback on ideas for a good lead magnet. I came away with a wonderful list of ideas that I still have and refer to.
Unfortunately my first lead magnet didn’t go that well (I barely got 15 sign ups!)
So I put the post advertising my lead magnet in the Audience Building Club Facebook group and asked for feedback.
I received great feedback on both the copy and the image and when I released the new-look Facebook post it very quickly hit 293 likes and within 12 hours, had reached approximately 7,500 people organically PLUS lots of people were signing up – I tripled my audience building target for the month!
There has also been a big increase on engagement on my posts since this lead magnet and it nearly doubled the likes on my page (not bad from one post!)
My next big win: Asking my tribe what they want instead of falling into the trap of thinking I already know what they want!
J9 and Jo teach that it’s really important to co-create your products and services with your tribe, not for them. With this in mind, I tried to survey my tribe to find out what kind of professional development topics they were interested in.
I only got 10 responses which I was disappointed in.
The second time round I got feedback on my copy text. Janine gave some really specific feedback on my wording which helped it to be clear and concise. Following a discussion in the Audience Building Club, I also included a prize to encourage participation and this was definitely key as my tribe are super busy.
Next time around, as soon as I posted the survey on Facebook responses came flooding in and the feedback was gold!
I also took the opportunity to add a couple of questions about my tribes key challenges.
This has not only given me feedback on what professional development topics my tribe are interested in, but also a clear understanding of their pain points, some great examples I can use in my professional development sessions and most importantly, a much better understanding of who my ideal client is and what their needs are.
My third big win: a clear vision to guide me.
The vision I created during the ecourse has been a big help when I have found myself taking on too much (which I have a big tendency to do).
I refer back to it to make sure that what I am doing is actually part of my vision and if it’s not, I let it go or move on.
For example, I had an offer of a business opportunity but there was something holding me back. By reflecting on my why or my vision I could see that the opportunity was not fully in line with my vision, so I chose to move on from that opportunity.
My vision has also helped me let go of deadlines that are going to have a big impact on other areas of my life. I had set a date to run a webinar in May, for example, but I realised I was going to be pushed for time.
I started to see that it was going to be a huge challenge to get anything done while my children were at home. I would have gotten stressed and they would have been agitated and frustrated at being restricted, so I wouldn’t have been able to concentrate properly and get it done to the standard I would have wanted.
I decided to push it out so that I am not getting unnecessarily stressed and so that my children have my full attention during their holidays – an approach that is much more aligned with my vision than trying to push through.
One last win!
I have really appreciated the direct feedback that has been given during the coaching calls and also in the Facebook group during my time with Get It Done Mum.
I feel that the knowledge they have shared has been so on point and useful that whenever they say something I just do it.
I do it because I know that I will get results much faster that way than over thinking it and questioning their advice.
I am certain I have saved so much time and fast tracked my audience building by coming on board with Get It Done Mum. Such awesome women and stoked to have this opportunity.
